Knowl Park House

Jun 01, 2023

Here's the latest from our new dementia day care facility build in Mirfield.

Contractors have completed the installation of the steel frame and you can see the size and scale of our new dementia day care facility. It looks amazing!

Last time we said work will start on the floor using a beam and block construction method. The beams are laid in parallel and the blocks are placed to infill between them, creating a continuous surface. This work is now complete which means no more mud for future site visits!

An attenuation tank that will help prevent flooding by storing water in the event of heavy rainfall has been installed and passers-by may have noticed that the site cabins have moved back across the site and are sat above it. This is the spot that will eventually be the car park.

Next job for the contractors is to install the roof purlins prior to starting work on the roof. What is a purlin you ask? They are horizontal beams or bars that are used to support the roof deck.

Work will also commence on the ‘envelope’ of the building. This is essentially the outside of the building, which in this case will be masonry (brickwork) and a steel framing system. The framing system is a frame inside the main steel frame that is used to support and infill the walls of the building.

Drainage works at the site entrance will also be completed.

The Knowl Park House site is taking part in the Build UK Open Doors event.

Open Doors is a UK-wide event where construction sites open their doors to allow people to find out more about the construction industry. As part of this, the team at Knowl Park will be hosting visits on 15th March. For more information or to book a place please visit: https://opendoors.construction/site/550
